Lino Lakes, Minnesota, is a community rich in history and brimming with local events that bring residents together. From its early days as Centerville Township to its incorporation as a village in 1955, Lino Lakes has always been a place where community spirit thrives.
A Glimpse into Our History
In the 1950s, neighboring villages began annexing land from Centerville Township. To protect its boundaries and finance public improvements, residents voted to incorporate as a village. Several names were proposed, most containing the word “lakes.” The origin of “Lino” remains unknown, but a post office by that name operated in the late 1800s. Thus, the village was named “Lino Lakes” and officially incorporated on May 11, 1955, covering 21,000 acres and home to 1,800 citizens. In 1972, it transitioned from a village to a city.
Community Events That Unite Us
Our city hosts numerous events that foster community engagement and celebrate our shared heritage. The Lino Lakes American Legion Post 566 is a hub for such activities. For instance, the annual Community Corn Roast, organized in collaboration with the Lino Lakes Ambassador Program, offers delicious food, music, and games for all ages. Additionally, the “Get A Clue Trivia and Burger Night” provides an opportunity for residents to test their knowledge while enjoying a meal together.
Looking Ahead
As we continue to grow, it’s essential to cherish and participate in these community events. They not only honor our history but also strengthen the bonds among residents. Let’s embrace the spirit of Lino Lakes by engaging in and supporting the activities that make our city unique.
